Why AMPS
"Looking out for you, with expert advice, guidance and support whenever you need us.
The Professional Divers AssociationThe Professional Divers Association was founded in 1974 and was very active securing better conditions for divers on the North Sea. In 1987 it became part of the forerunner of the Unite union. The majority of commercial divers are still self employed and badly need a union to help them with claims for injuries and other problems. The parents or widow of a diver killed badly need to find out how the death occurred and to make certain lessons are learned. It is vital for them the union provides suitable lawyers and the best expert witnesses. The union has helped divers and their families secure over £1million in compensation and to achieve a considerable improvement in safety for divers working onshore in this country. Those working overseas are in greater need of the legal aid Unite can provide when they get injured. The union also keeps a close eye on the training of divers around the world and works closely with the Health and Safety Executive. The present organiser, Michael Cocks, writes a regular column for the widely read Underwater Contractor International Magazine.
